I work in a supermarket bakery, so we're all very aware of the situation-- superbowl on Sunday, Mardi Gras on Tues, Valentine's on Wed. Each of those 3 events is a ton of extra production and it's going to be a nightmare. It's bad enough when those events are spread over two or 3 weeks. So Lent is coming up. 40 days of virtue signalers or devotees with lenten sacrifices, ashes on their foreheads, fasting, and no meat on Fridays and on Ash Wednesday and Good Friday. This year, Ash Wednesday falls on the same day as Valentine's Day! LOL. We all are free to do whatever during this season with little to no guilt. Ash Wednesday is a day of solemnity, fasting, and abstinence; Valentine's Day celebrates St. Valentine but tends to lend itself to indulgence. Nothing formal has been released around official direction from the church. Obviously Ash Wednesday is going to take precedence, but I'm just curious how other Catholic families have decided to this day. Valentine's Day is a day for romantic dinners and sentimental gifts. As for Valentine’s Day, I really only remember it as a family thing and (elementary) school event (ie. giving eachother cards & candy). Question for Catholics, will you fast on Valentine’s Day? Food and/or non-food fasting? This is my first time on a Valentine’s Day date, and it happened to be Ash Wednesday is on the same day. I was originally just going to take her out to dinner, but it seems that we need to be careful and intentional this year.
