Valentines at the Hotel Pattee A suite dedicated to David Jackson Pattee, whose family built and opened the Hotel Pattee on May 29, 1913. The only area in the existing hotel in which a portion of the original wood floor from 1913 is in place. When the Hotel Pattee opened in 1913, it offered the latest in fitness and recreation—a bowling alley. Rebuilt to replicate the original alley, the Arthur "Oley" Olson Bowling Alley has been situated in the lower level of the Hotel Pattee and features two full-functioning lanes with automated scoring. One one parcel, he erected D. J. Pattee Dry Goods and Groceries, the first retail outlet in Perry and the site of the future Hotel Pattee. Although David Pattee was always known for his fun-loving ways, this did not detract from his reputation as one of Perry's greatest benefactors. 1869 saw the beginning of postal service in Perry and David Born in Hannibal, Missouri and educated at the University of Iowa, Barry Kemp spent more than two years (1963-1965) living in Perry and, for a short time, called the Hotel Pattee home.
