So I guess this year, all I really want is to be able to do something great for him. Neither of us are huge into the "holiday" but I'm going to make an effort to make it a really relaxing, enjoyable day that ends with him feeling appreciated and loved, which he definitely deserves. For me, I don't really care about valentine's day. But the most important thing to me for special occasions is just to spend time with my SO. Since you unfortunately won't be able to be with her on that day, I'd have something or other delivered so she knows you're thinking of her and wish that you could be together. So, i’m doing some early valentines shopping, and I just can’t wrap my head around how to pick a gift that’s valentines themed, but not “too cliché” or “overdone” for added context it’s long distance so i can’t take her to a fancy dinner or anything like that. It kind of sucks for us, because Valentines day is two weeks after my birthday, and two weeks before our third year anniversary. So, I really don't expect/want much. My husband likes ropes and tying knots. I got him The Ashley Book of Knots, wrapped the book, and tied long lengths of folded paracord into a bow. For mine and my SO's anniversary (which is only a week and a half off from Valentine's Day), I did a 365 note jar. The idea is that the person gets to open up one note every day for the next year with a message of some sort from you, usually things like your favorite memories with them, reasons you love/appreciate them. My girlfriend wanted to do this for Valentine's Day, then a couple of days later she told me she was only pity dating me. So I went home and talked to my friend over text about everything and she asked me to be her Valentine. She's at a school 5 hours away so we're going to Skype and have a dinner date. Everything went better than expected. So Valentine’s Day is coming up and I’m obviously in a relationship. But in my past relationships Valentine’s Day was never acknowledged or celebrated in an “aweeee ️” way. So now that Valentine’s Day is coming I just don’t want to celebrate it at all, I told my boyfriend that I just want to act like it’s a regular day. I am a 25-year-old woman and I love men and I love Valentine’s Day. Here is my advice for you. Get 1 thing that is a traditional romantic gift, and get 1 thing that says something about your girlfriend’s personality. Or, even better, combine the two. For example, if she loves whales, you could get her candy that’s shaped like whales. Want matters not. I learned from a wise redneck comic that Valentine’s Day is a man holiday too. It’s called “Wiener Christmas”. The better you spoil your special someone on that day, the better Wiener Christmas you shall have. Okay, so I really want to spend Valentine’s Day with my girlfriend (of about 4 months) but she decided that she was going to accept plans with her two friends (male and female) instead of hanging out with me because the female friend didn’t want to be alone on Valentine’s day. Which of course, leaves me alone. Many people hate Valentine's Day because it reminds them of being single. To this I ask, why is Valentine's Day celebrated? It is to celebrate love. This doesn't necessarily mean romantic love. You can still celebrate the love of your family, your friends, and even yourself. If you feel sad and lonely on Valentine's Day, treat yourself. what's more important imo, is to just spend some quality time together. the best valentines day i had was an evening spent cuddled up on the couch after a homecooked dinner. but if you go out to a restaurant or something similar, show him that you really appreciate the effort he put in. all most guys want for valentines is a happy girlfriend I’ve been dating my boyfriend for nearly 7 years and still really want to give him something for valentine’s but am very broke :/ Any ideas? Exactly, I like being romantic and cooking dinner and getting her flowers, I hate having a day where I feel obligated to get gifts and do all of that or go out to a fancy dinner, it's a huge marketing day for cards and heart shaped jewelry and it's bullshit. I want, for once, Valentines day to be about me. I was born on Valentines Day and when I was in a relationship, I had to split the day between my birthday and Valentines Day. And now that I'm older and single, I never really get to celebrate my birthday anymore because everyone is in relationships so I'm shit out of luck when it comes to Being a good listener is an everyday trait. If Valentine's Day was for everyday traits, they'd call it Tuesday. You seem to be trying to defend your idea, rather than actually listening to what I've said. So, I'll just point you to the part where I advised you to talk to your SO. We can't tell you what they really want. Only they can tell you. If he's cancelling on you once he's found out it's Valentine's Day, he doesn't sound like much of a stand up guy. This is exactly what I don't get. I'm a guy that doesn't really "do" Valentine's Day, either, but I sure as hell wouldn't let it stop me from going out on a date that I already arranged. I dont have many friends to talk to about this but Valentines day is coming up and I am dating this crazy amazing guy. Hes helped me through some really rough times and I just want to show him how much I love him. I was in a shitty relationship before him and hated doing valentines day. This is my first valentines I am really excited for.
