With Valentine’s Day fast approaching, we here at Oxford University Press thought we’d ‘share the love’ and create some ELT lesson ideas, activities and worksheets for your language learning classroom. A Valentine's Day Song. Valentine’s Day is not Valentine's Day without a mushy, romantic, love song. Listen to Wet Wet Wet's Love is All Around with your class, and ask them to complete the gap-filling exercise. Or choose any other romantic love song. Free online esl lessons, activities, word games, and printables for teaching and learning about Valentine's Day. All levels and ages catered for. Includes word games, crosswords, vocabulary with definitions and example sentences, grammar, reading and listening activities, and song quizzes. This lesson is designed to be used near the date of Valentine's Day (14 February) to talk about the topic of love and romance.Students will brainstorm vocabulary related to the topic and then discuss some well-known quotes about love. They will speak about how people can find love and read about Valentine’s traditions in the UK. Students will then create a character for themselves and take Repeat with the other students and use a new topic. A fun activity to do with students is to have them decorate their classroom door in a Valentine’s Day theme. #16: Write a Love Poem: ESL Valentine’s Day Activity. Roses are red. Violets are blue . . . A fun activity you can try out for your Valentine’s day lesson is to get students to write a simple love poem, even if they don’t have a partner. It can be fun or silly—it’s up to the students! #17: Valentine’s Listening Lesson Valentine's Day Candy Hearts Writing. Have some fun on Valentine's Day with Candy Hearts! Use real candy hearts or the paper versions I included as prompts for a fun story or poem. Using the words from the hearts students can find inspiration for their writing. This is always a favorite activity for students at this time of the year! In this free Valentine's Day speaking activity, students match Valentine's Day words to definitions and then race to complete sentences with the vocabulary. In two groups, students start by matching 10 Valentine's Day words to their correct definitions. Next, students join up with a partner from the other group. Start a digital space for a kindness collection where students write kind acts they’ve done or received. Carve out a few minutes each day in the week leading up to Valentine’s Day so students can post in Padlet or another favorite collaborative digital space. Data We Love.
